Happy WIAW friends!! It’s been a stressful few days. I never truly understood how much preparation is involved in order to have a stress-free work/school week. (I’m going to warn you now, this first chunk gets a little rant-y. Feel free to just skip to the WIAW part :p)
It’s sad because I don’t necessarily have the time to do the things I really enjoy – like trying new workouts, cooking new foods, and reading up on the latest health and fitness trends. I love trying new things, but when it comes down to it, I can’t financially or academically afford to deviate my routine and risk falling behind.
I’m also realizing many of the little things that to others may not matter, but cause me a great deal of stress and anxiety. Some of these things are:
- Not getting a good enough workout
- Not waking up on time
- Not getting enough sleep
- Being too tired to do my HW at the end of the day
- Not having enough healthy food prepped for the week
- Gaining back the weight that I lost
- Getting a serious injury from working out too much
- Seriously the list could go on and on folks…
This gets me thinking – is it healthy to worry about these things so much? How healthy is too healthy, if there is even such a thing? Let’s do a breakdown of how my weeks have been spent lately:
- Wake up: between 5 and 7 a.m.
- Working out: 2 hours a day, 6 days a week.
- Working: 6-12 hours, 3-4 days a week
- Class: 4 hours, 2.5 hours, 1 hour, 2.5 hours Mon-Thurs (in respective order)
- Eating: roughly 1 1/2 hours per day
- Preparing for the next day: 30 min
- Driving to/from places: 1-2 hours per day.
- Shower/get ready: 1 hour
- Bedtime (or whenever I’m too tired to function): 10 or 11 p.m.
Now…with this, I have about 15-17 hours in a day.
17 – working out/shower = 14
14 – Eating and Prepping = 12
On work and class days...
14 – work = 11
Mon/wed –> 11 – monday class = 7; 11 – wednesday class = 10
10 – driving = 8 (roughly)
14 – tuesday or thursday class = 11.5
11.5 – driving = 9.5
Now hold the phone!! *adjusts nerd glasses*. According to my calculations, my days should have around 8-9 hours of excess time to be spent doing homework!
Alright alright…so then why is it that I feel that my time is so incredibly limited? Factor in appointments, food prep time once a week (basically all of sunday afternoon), grocery shopping (like 2 hours), cleaning (cause things seem to get messy when you’re in a hurry), washing dishes (since my family’s dishwasher is broken…) and now radiation 5 days a week for 3 weeks starting Monday. (probably 30-45 minutes total out of my day.), AND time in to study, do homework for my online statistics course….
Quite honestly, I don’t exactly know what the point even was of me putting my time allotment into numerical terms – and frankly, it’s quite difficult and near impossible unless you literally live on a militant schedule and are a robot. (bleep bloop..tak-ing o-ver the-world. JK.)
I’ve been having this lingering thought that I’m going to become one of those career-driven types who has no time for family. I say this because lately, I’ll get home after a long day and still have to do homework, and my mom will try and converse with me and it feels like I literally just don’t have room in my brain for anything that isn’t of relevance to my education or my fitness/nutrition regimen. I feel bad because I love my mom and she does so much for me and I feel like I can’t find the time to appreciate her. I want to make sure that the family’s money is well spent by doing well in college, and for me that tends to be a bit harder than it is for others.
Life is full of unexpected suprises and you literally have no way of predicting what will happen. You can make promises as much as you want, but sometimes you have to break them – even the ones you made to yourself in order to make sure that certain things take priority. Family and your personal happiness are so important – but how is it possible to feel like those things take priority over doing well in an education you are paying for? At least…that’s my personal dilemma.
Alright, I’m done ranting. Here’s a few random things from this week:
On saturday, I decided my room needed a SERIOUS cleaning (it was bad) and among some other interesting things, I found the bra I wore for my Bat Mitzvah when I was 13 – here it is compared with the bra I wear now. Can you guess which is which!? haha :p
Monday, I had radiation simulation. This is basically when they take measurements and make markings regarding where they’re going to treat me. So now I have tattoos!! just kidding. They’re permanent dots of ink on the center of my sternum, on the xyphoid process, and one on each side of my rib cage. in order to avoid giving me a permanent black dot right smack dab in the middle of my chest, they used a sharpie to make the marking and put a piece of tape over it
They also took a mould of my body to make sure that I’m laying in the same position for each treatment.
So that’s mostly all for the random musings of the weekend/beginning of the week. OH, I also forgot. Kayla and I had a massive fail monday morning – we were going to FINALLY start crossfit, but both of us took pre-workouts that we’d never taken before. They made us incredibly nauseous, and combined with the anxiety we already had about starting, we decided to save ourselves the embarrassment and just go home.
